"Doris Ilean Madden, 79, a 1941 graduate of Bluffton High School, died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Meadowvale Care & Rehabilitation Center in Bluffton. She had been in failing heath for two days. Mrs. Madden worked at Magnavox Corp. in Fort Wayne before retiring in 1988 after 30 years. She was active for 10 years in a bowling league and was inducted into the Bluffton Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979-80. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and attended the First Church of Christ. A resident of Indiana since 1928, she was born at Bowen, Ky., June 13, 1923, a daughter of Everett Emery and Lydia Conrad Faulkner. Surviving are a son, Larry F. Arnold of Bluffton; two grandchildren, Bryon Arnold and Brent Arnold, both of Bluffton; and a great-grandchild, Levi Andrew Arnold of Bluffton. Deceased are two brothers, Everett “Tuck” Faulkner, who died July 25, 2001, and Shelby Faulkner, who died during World War II; and a sister, Helen Ruth Knox, who died May 8, 2001. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Meier officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to services. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association."

Ruth Ann Arnold, 85, formerly of Wells County, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Forest Hill Health & Rehab Center in Forest Hill, Md. She was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Wells County to Charles L. Wilson and Margret I. McFarren Wilson. She married Samuel J. Arnold Jr. Aug. 27, 1943, in Bluffton; he preceded her in death July 31, 1991. Ruth Ann was a homemaker and a minister’s wife. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Mountain Christian Church in Maryland. Survivors include two daughters, Cathy J. Flair of Ocean City, Md., and Rebecca Atkins of Mechanicsville, Md.; two sons, David L. (Brenda) Arnold of Lansing, Mich., and Timothy W. Arnold of Forest Hill, Md.; two sisters, Doris (Gerald) Lucas of Warsaw and Mary Jane Falk of Bluffton; a brother, Roger (Markeeta) Wilson of Bluffton; 15 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Hippard, and three sisters, Helen Meyer, Mona Jean Boyle and Janet K. Fahl. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Bluffton First Church of Christ with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Born June 10, 1925 in Bluffton to Samuel E. and Bernice (Hurbst) Arnold, he married the former Lillian E. Steffen July 21, 1944 in Bluffton. She survives. He was a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Unit in World War II, serving from 1944 to 1946, concluding service as a corporal. He retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company after 35 years of service and was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and Epworth United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis (Janice) Arnold of Fort Wayne, a daughter Linda (Larry) Tucker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Markley, Bluffton, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A son, Steven E. Arnold, preceded him in death. Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday will be at Goodwin Memorial Chapel under the direction of Rev. Dick Frederick. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery near Vera Cruz. The American Legion will be providing graveside military rites. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund."

Mrs. Markley was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Wells County. She attended Liberty Center High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 111 Auxiliary. She participated in the Parlor City Ladies Golf League. She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Wells County, to Samuel Arnold and Bernice Herbst Arnold. She married Robert K. Markley June 8, 1945, in Bluffton; her husband died May 2, 2006. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia K. (Tom) Paxson of Bluffton; a son, Gary L. (Diane) Markley of Bluffton, and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thoma/Rich, Chaney and Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Cindy Osgood officiating. Burial will be at the Six Mile Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to First We Care."

1Bluffton (Indiana) News-Banner, On-line edition, 3 May 2006. "Robert K. Markley, 82 Robert K. Markley, 82, of Bluffton died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Markley was a 35-year employee of Franklin Electric Co., retiring in 1982 as foreman of the tool room. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corp., with service during World War II. He flew fighter planes off the aircraft carrier U.S. Antietam.
A lifelong resident of Wells County, Mr. Markley was a member of American Legion Post #111 and the Parlor City Country Club. He attended First United Methodist Church, Bluffton.
Born on Jan. 23, 1924, in Bluffton, he was a son of Paul H. and Daisy A. (Kelly) Markley, and a 1942 graduate of Bluffton High School. His marriage on June 8, 1945, in Bluffton was to Ruth E. (Arnold), who survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Cynthia K.) Paxson of Bluffton; a son, Gary L. Markley of Bluffton; a sister, Pauline Markley of Bluffton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home with Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday, all at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Six Mile Cemetery with military graveside honors by American Legion Post #111. Preferred memorials are to the American Lung Association."
