Obituary from Piqua (Ohio) Daily Call - 11/29/99

Martha M. Shaw, 86, formerly of 710 Manier Ave., Piqua, more recently of the Alterra Sterling House, died on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at 2:45 a.m. in the Upper Valley Medical Center.  She was born in Miami County of Feb. 2, 1913, to the late George T. and Mattie E. Deweese Shroyer.  She married C. Gilbert Shaw on Dec. 31, 1936, in Piqua. He preceded her in death in 1966. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ed Vardon of Twin Lakes, Wis., and two granddaughters, Heather Vardon of Illinois and Melissa Vardon of California. Mrs. Shaw was a 1931 graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended Miami University.  She retired in 1973 after 25 years of teaching in the Piqua City School System. She was a member of the Ohio Education Association, the Piqua Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary, the YWCA of Piqua and a member and Paast Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 320.  She was a member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ where she was active in the Couples Class. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Henry Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cametery. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ, 421 Broadway, Piqua, Ohio 45356.
