Diane Cardin, 62, of Churubusco, died at 9:18 a.m. Thursday at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn. Mrs. Cardin, who formerly resided also in the Ossian area, retired in December 1998 after more than 30 years from BRC Rubber Group at Churubusco, with which firm she had held various titles and positions. She was born in Huntington County Aug. 1, 1937 to Paul and Rush Bush Scott. Her marriage at Bluffton on May 22, 1976 was to Marvin D. Cardin, who survives. Other survivors are a son, James S. Anderson of Bluffton; two daughters, Pam L. Anderson of Bluffton and Paula J. Brown of Angola; two stepdaughters, Kathy Jo Cardin of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Carol Kindler of Ossian; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Elzey & Haggard Funeral Home at Ossian, where calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Rev. Walter Graeflin will officiate and burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery at Bluffton."

A native of Wells County, James E. "Jim" Stockman, 60, of rural Huntington, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at his home.
Born August 30, 1944 to Frey D. and Nevah M. Maddux Stockman, he married Michelle McFadden on Sept. 5, 1964 at Plum Tree; she survives.
A 1962 graduate of West Rock Creek High School, he attended IPFW and was an active member of the Plum Tree United Church of Christ. He retired from General Electric, Fort Wayne in 2001 after 38 years; he was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the GE ELFUN organization.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael Stockman and Brian Stockman, both of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Jeff Stockman of Markle and John Stockman of Huntington. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Middleton.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel. A private service is planned, with burial in the Markle Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the church's building fund."

Phyllis S. Maddux, 87, of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Bethlehem Woods of Fort Wayne. Phyllis was born in Fort Wayne on March 6, 1926, to Cornelius and Madeline (Koeble) Sweeney. Her parents preceded her in death. She married William Frank Maddux on June 6, 1953, in Angola; he preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1992. Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Judith Ann (David) Ferguson of Fort Wayne, Connie Lou Carnahan of Fairfield, Ok., and Billie Jean (James) Winters of Fort Wayne; two sons, Thomas (Vicki) Maddux of Fort Wayne, and Timothy (Deb) Maddux of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Phyllis was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Fred Nye, Jan. 3, 1952; by a son, Franklin Leroy Maddux; and by a sister, Maxine Schlink. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thoma/Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home. Calling hours are 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne."

Kathryn Roberts Bricker, 96, of Bluffton died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at River Terrace Estates. She was a housewife and a member of Friends Church at Rockford. Born April 28, 1909, in Wells County, she was the daughter of Arthur and Rachel McFarren Maddux. Her first marriage was on April 7, 1928 in Wells County to F. Earl Roberts, who died in February of 1970. Her second marriage was on April 19, 1979, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to William T Bricker, who died March 26, 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Darwin (Betty) McAfee and Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Longenberger, both of Bluffton; three sons, Fred Roberts of Churubusco, Kay Roberts of Markle and Walter Roberts of Auburn; 20 grand-children, 45 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.There were no sibling survivors. She was the last of her family. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lester Roberts and Jackie Roberts.Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Rev.Walter Graeflin officiating. Burial will be in Rockford Friends Cemetery. Memorials to American Lung Association or donor’s choice."

Kiefer, 85, rural Bluffton, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Meadowvale Health Care facility. A native of Wells County, he was born on Oct. 31, 1918 to Fred C. and Myrtle Vaughn Kiefer and married Lucille Maddux on Sept. 25, 1937 in Covington, Ky.; she died Jan. 10, 2000. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he retired in 1981 after 34 years of service at Franklin Electric. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Franklin and of the American Legion Post 111. He is survived by five sons, Frederick, Ronald and Donald Kiefer, all of Bluffton, Thomas Kiefer of San Mateo, Calif., and Rex Kiefer of Walnut, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Hargis (Nina) Sizemore and Celia Kiefer, both of Ossian; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren. Visitation hours are Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, with services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the American Legion."
